What is CSDD?
CSDD (Road Traffic Safety Directorate) is the Latvian state institution responsible for vehicle registration, driver licensing, and road safety. Every vehicle driven on Latvian roads must be registered with CSDD.

Sign the purchase agreement
The purchase agreement must include: parties' details, vehicle data (make, model, VIN, reg number), price and date. Prepare 2 copies.
Purchase OCTA insurance
OCTA (mandatory third-party liability insurance) is required for all vehicles in Latvia. Available online or at insurance companies. Cost: €40–200+ per year.
Pay the vehicle operation tax (TEN)
TEN must be paid before registration. Payment for the full year or proportionally to remaining months. Can be paid at ecsdd.lv or bank.
Pass technical inspection (if needed)
If the inspection is expired or the car is imported, a technical inspection is needed before registration. Cost: ~€40.
Book a CSDD appointment
